Computer:

LCD vs. LED Display

Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) is what a calculator uses. This type of display is a cheaper method of providing you with on screen information. The problem with LCD is that eventually it might go all black and since it is a liquid, you will be required to change the whole computer board. This will be costly in the long run. Another obstacle is that this type of display is not for all user heights. You must look at the LCD display at a certain angle to view the screen properly. If you are tall or short this screen will be blurry for you. Try the treadmill that uses the LCD screen and then go on one that has the LED and you will see the difference. One can be viewed as basic cable and the other one High Definition. We suggest paying the extra money and going with a treadmill that uses a LED screen.

Light Emitting Diode (LED) uses actual mini lights in the computer board. This type of light is made to withstand shake, bounce and vibration. If a bulb actually does burn out, the service provider can change the one quadrant of bulbs and not the whole display. This will save you a lot of money if you should require it. The other big advantage of the LED is that any height user can view the screen with high visibility and at any angle.

Programs:

Programs are great motivational tools. They are not necessary to get a good workout from a treadmill, but they sure help on those days when proper motivation may be lacking. Programs are basically built in workouts to provide convenience and excitement to a workout. Many treadmills offer programs such as hill intervals, cardio workouts, weight loss etc...Also, you may be able to increase the level (or intensity) of individual programs, which gives the exerciser long term goals. Make sure you can also chose your desired workout time, some machines only allow you to chose a program for 30 or 60 min.

Heart Rate Control or Heart Rate Target (HRI/HRT):

Heart rate interactive or target monitoring systems may be needed for patients with heart problems. Fitness enthusiasts may use heart rate control monitoring systems in order to maintain an optimal level of cardiovascular fitness. Having a heart rate monitoring system that works interactively with the treadmill will allow you to make all the correct adjustments to speed and/or incline to keep you at your desired heart rate. You won't waste time under-training or burning yourself out by over-training. Heart rate training is the most efficient way to maximize fat-burning weight loss while maintaining a low level of perceived exertion. The best heart rate monitors read the heart rate with a chest strap. The chest strap electronically signals the monitor with an accurate heart rate. Ear and finger clip pulse monitors are not recommended because they are not as accurate as the chest strap models.

Another important piece of information pertains to the buttons on the monitors.  If the buttons are part of the computer then the whole computer must be replaced if one gets defective.  It is a good idea to purchase a treadmill that allows you to just purchase the buttons or membrane separately.
